Web: I can't imagine my life without

Today we had to use a web to write down the things we can't imagine life without. To me, the main thing I can't imagine life without is, my family. I have a lot of things I can't live my life without.

Enlarging a picture

Today we had to enlarge a picture that we had chosen, to draw on the asphalt outside. First, I had to draw my grid on a paper, to see what it would like on the ground. The next day, we all had to go outside to measure and draw our grid. My grid was a 7 by 9 grid. The picture that I had to enlarge outside on the asphalt was an elephant.
Screenshot 2016-11-30 at 9.33.00 AM.png
To draw my picture using my grid, I had to count the squares while drawing my elephant accurately. I worked out my scale factor which was: 1cm represented 30cm. Enlarging a picture on the asphalt was difficult because some of the things that I drew were in the wrong place.

Enlargement in Geometry

WALT: enlarge pictures
Today in maths, we had to enlarge a small picture by drawing it using a grid. I drew the picture by counting the squares as I drew the lion. I found this activity confusing because when I drew my picture, everything was everywhere and not in the same place. Then I started all over again and got it all in the right place. The scale factor for my picture is 2. Next I would like to enlarge a more bigger picture.

Tessellation

Last week Friday, we learned how to name tessellation patterns. Today we made our own tessellation pattern using symmetry. To me, this activity was kind of easy because, all I had to do was just to make a shape. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun.

Tessellation Pattern

Last Friday, we have been learning how to name tessellation patterns. Today we had to create a tessellation pattern using two or more shapes. I found it hard to create a tessellation pattern. This is my pattern that I have created and named. It is called a vertices, because it has 2 names.

Tessellation

Walt: create and name tessellation patterns

Today we learned how to name and create tessellation patterns. I also learned what a vertex and polygon is. A polygon is a 2D shape that has straight sides and a vertex is a corner. In a tessellation pattern, there must be no gaps and no overlaps. In class, each group got given a tessellation pattern that we had to create. Some tessellation patterns were medium, easy and hard. In my group we did all easy medium and hard patterns. The name of this tessellation pattern is 4.6.6.12.

Haiku

This week, we learned how to write a Haiku. A haiku is a traditional Japanese poem. To make a haiku, you have to follow the three rules. The rules are: 17 syllables, 5 on the first line, 7 syllables on the second line and five syllables on the third line. You also have to use seasonal reference and a cutting point.

This is my Haiku that I made with Andrea and Norah.

The waves kissed the shore

Gently caressing the sand.

Trees dancing sweetly

Area and Perimeter

In this game, my score was 100. At first, when I started this game it was difficult, but when I kept on playing I knew how to work out the problems. First, all you have to do is find the area and perimeter. I found this game easy as I kept playing it because helped me too get better at it. Next I want to revise HCF and LCM.

Brooke Neal

Brooke Neal represented New Zealand in the RIO Olympic 2016. She is a defender in the Black Sticks hockey team. Shay Neal, her brother, and Brooke both play hockey. Brooke's motivation is her family. Her dad trained her since she was 2 years old. Brooke Neal's role model is her brother. Brooke loves her brother so much that she follows his foot steps.

New Zealand Olympic Ambassador - Brooke Neal

Today Brooke Neal came to our school. Brooke Neal is a Black Sticks hockey player. Today she talked about the three olympic values, and also her values too. Friendship, Respect and Excellence. Brooke Neal inspired me to follow my goal because, if you have a goal then you can try and make it happen. In 2009, Brooke Neal wrote down her goals, and one of her goals was to go to the RIO Olympics 2016, then she did.

Angles

In this game, I had to find all the 8 planets using angles. When you finish the first round it will get harder and harder. I found this game easy because it gave me a protractor to use. In the last round, there will be no numbers. All you have to do is figure it out.

Then as it get’s high tide, the waves come back with a better plan to swallow the rocks. As the waves comes back, all the rocks began to disappear to play hide and seek underwater.

Magic Sqaures

This is a magic square. All you have to do is just find the average of all the numbers. Then you divide it by 3, because it is a 3 by 3 square. I have attempted to figure out how to solve the level 5 magic square, but it was too hard, so Shanelle had to help me. I'd like to learn how to work with integers and whole numbers.

E Asttle Reading

This is my reading results. In my e asttle reading I got a 4B. To be at the national standard I have to get a 4A. And to get a 4A, I'll have to try even harder to achieve that. Also getting a 4A will be my new goal for next term.

Zepper 2016

Screenshot 2016-08-30 at 11.03.47 AM.png
It was a normal day in the city, where a crazy inventor was trying to create a new way to travel around the world. He thought to himself. Will it be a plane, or even a bird? Then suddenly he thought to himself. I got it...... it will be a hot air balloon, but instead, the whole thing will be made of metal. After when the crazy inventor had an idea, he started to laugh like an evil person who wants to take over the world. Hahahahahahaha.
The next day, the crazy inventor gathered all of the things that he will be needing, to make his invention. It took about two years for the hot air balloon to be assembled into one giant flying machine. After when the air balloon’s was done, the crazy inventor tested it if it was working. While it was working, the crazy inventor decide to call it the Zepper 2016.
The crazy inventor had a plan. His plan was to get rid of all the planes that existed in the world, and replaced it with his invention called the Zepper 2016. For the past years, the crazy inventor made one hundred hot air balloons. The whole world was going nuts because they really wanted to travel around the world on the Zepper 2016. So the crazy inventor had to put up the price of the hot air balloon to $599 per person. When people were traveling on the Zepper 2016, it wouldn't work, so everyone was complaining that the Zepper 2016 was a rip off and wanted all their money in return.
So the crazy inventor had to destroy all the Zepper 2016 hot air balloon’s and go back to using the plane. Everyone was very disappointed because they really really wanted to travel on the Zepper 2016.

The crazy inventor so called said, that the Zepper 2016 is a big fail. Weeks later the crazy inventor got over the Zepper 2016 and moved on to another invention. Then had his evil laugh..... Hahahahaha!

Yesterday, nearly half of the class met Kanoa Lloyd. Everyone was so excited that Kanoa came because they recognized her. Kanoa Lloyd is a person who says the weather, on 3 News. Kanoa came to our class, to give the books to the people who were suppose to get it. After when Kanoa gave out the books to the two people, everyone had to go next to her, so one of the teachers could take a picture. When the picture was taken, we all said bye.

How sport has made me a better person

Sport has made me a better/worse person

The three Olympic values are Respect, Excellence and Friendship. All these three values have taught me how to be a better person when it comes to sports.

Respect

Respect has made me a slightly better person at sport. Respect also helped me to respect the other team when the other team wins. Lastly respect has helped me to accept the umpire’s decision. To show my respect to the other team is to shake their hands if we lose or win.

Excellence

Excellence has made me a better person at sport because it has taught me how to communicate with the people in the same team I play sport with. Excellence has also taught me how to support my team players, every time they play a sport. When we play a sport every Wednesday and Thursday, I am always filled with enthusiasm.

Friendship

Friendship has made me a better person at sport, because it has taught me how to encourage others to keep on trying their best. Friendship has also taught me how to work together in a team.

I still need to work on all the Olympic values. I believe that all the three Olympic values has taught me how to be a better person at sport and be fit.

Lisa Carrington - Timeline

On Thursday, I made a timeline about Lisa Carrington. I made this timeline to sow her highs and lows from when she was born, all the way to 2016. I enjoyed making this timeline about Lisa Carrington because I never knew any facts about her, but now I have. Next time if we do this activity again, I would like to do another timeline about someone else.

Japanese Game (Karuta)

Today the writing group played a Japanese game called karuta with Mr Yamasaki. The rules of the game was that you have to put your hands on your knees. They when someone reads out a sentence then they have to try and touch the card first before the other person gets it. While we were playing, everyone was having fun.

Origami Crane

Today we made a origami crane with our Japanese teacher, Mr Yamasaki. When I attempted to make an origami crane, I thought I wouldn't make it but when I kept on trying, I finally made it.

Chalk Art

Today we had to spend the whole of the middle block doing our chalk art. For the past few weeks, we have been studying all about the olympics. Rooms 7 and 8 students had to go outside to draw our code that we had planned. Next, after drawing our sport, one of the teachers had to take a picture of us in our position doing the sport that we did. For my chalk art, my sport was fencing.

Cook Island Language Week

Today, room 7 and 8 students got a visit from Cook Islanders. The Cook Islanders were from the Auckland Museum and they came to talk about their culture. Today I learn’t a lot of new things from my own culture as I am a Cook Islander. I learn’t that you could make a string with the coconut husks. The other thing I learn’t was that, instead of using a drill to make a hole through a piece of wood, they made their own special drill with only using hard sticks and ropes. Also the last thing that I learnt was that the coconut tree is the tree of life. I was mostly interested in how they made the vaka.

Everyday Theatre

IMG_0338.JPG

Today, instead of doing maths reading or writing, the room 7 and 8 students had two visitors to work with us about our family issues. The main message Katlyn gave to us was that every child has hopes and dreams. I enjoy acting out the characters. Out of all the characters that Kaitlyn has, Becca is my favourite.

Metaphors

WALT: match metaphors with their meaning in sports and nonsport activities

Yesterday, the whole class had to get into groups of threes. Next, each group got handed a piece of paper with the meaning of that metaphor. The people in the target writing group, already tried it the previous day so, the people in the writing group, had to sit back and watch them until they were finished. Once they finished the activiti, one person from the writing group had to check it and see if it was right. This activity was fun because in my writing I used one metaphor from the activiti.

Muffin patterns

WALT: Study patterns  in Algebra

For the past 3 weeks, the whole class has been studying about patterns in algebra. Yesterday, the whole class had a competition on decorating the best pattern on our cupcakes. We only had to choose two fruits and three elements. I found this competition easy because I like creating my own patterns. This competition was fun because I created the best pattern. What I want to revise is perimeter and area.

Netball

Today the whole class played netball. Today's netball game was very interesting and fun because, everyone was playing as a team. The whole class had so much fun playing netball because, they were very good at it. I also enjoyed playing netball because we all had fun together.

My inspiration

Walt: discuss a goal with Dreydon and Kate

On Tuesday, we had two visitors. Their names were Dreydon and Kate. Kate is an author and, Dreydon is one who walked the 80 km with his work mates. They were going on the 80 km walk to fundraise  for Glen Innes School, St Pius School and also Adult Literacy.

The things that they need for the walk was a camel back bag to put their things or supplies in. The things that they had to bring was a waterproof jacket, a warm jacket or clothing, food, and water. The things that were provided for them was a headlight torch or two and a beacon, just in case someone injured themselves while walking.

Dreydon and his mates goal was to finish the 80 km walk under 24 hours. Also there other goal was to be S.M.A.R.T when they go for the walk. Smart stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time bound. Dreydon and his work mates had to walk throughout the day and night. While Dryden's work mates were walking, some of his work mates had drop out of the walk because a few were injured.

Dreydon’s presentation goal inspired me to achieve my goal that I have now, because he said to us all, to practise, practise and practise until you've achieved your goal. To me, Dreydon has been a good egg for doing the walk for us and for fundraising money for the two schools and the Adult Literacy.
