Enlarging a picture

Today we had to enlarge a picture that we had chosen, to draw on the asphalt outside. First, I had to draw my grid on a paper, to see what it would like on the ground. The next day, we all had to go outside to measure and draw our grid. My grid was a 7 by 9 grid. The picture that I had to enlarge outside on the asphalt was an elephant.

To draw my picture using my grid, I had to count the squares while drawing my elephant accurately. I worked out my scale factor which was: 1cm represented 30cm. Enlarging a picture on the asphalt was difficult because some of the things that I drew were in the wrong place.

Enlargement in Geometry

WALT: enlarge pictures
Today in maths, we had to enlarge a small picture by drawing it using a grid. I drew the picture by counting the squares as I drew the lion. I found this activity confusing because when I drew my picture, everything was everywhere and not in the same place. Then I started all over again and got it all in the right place. The scale factor for my picture is 2. Next I would like to enlarge a more bigger picture.

Tessellation

Last week Friday, we learned how to name tessellation patterns. Today we made our own tessellation pattern using symmetry. To me, this activity was kind of easy because, all I had to do was just to make a shape. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun.

Tessellation Pattern

Last Friday, we have been learning how to name tessellation patterns. Today we had to create a tessellation pattern using two or more shapes. I found it hard to create a tessellation pattern. This is my pattern that I have created and named. It is called a vertices, because it has 2 names.

Tessellation

Walt: create and name tessellation patterns

Today we learned how to name and create tessellation patterns. I also learned what a vertex and polygon is. A polygon is a 2D shape that has straight sides and a vertex is a corner. In a tessellation pattern, there must be no gaps and no overlaps. In class, each group got given a tessellation pattern that we had to create. Some tessellation patterns were medium, easy and hard. In my group we did all easy medium and hard patterns. The name of this tessellation pattern is 4.6.6.12.

Haiku

This week, we learned how to write a Haiku. A haiku is a traditional Japanese poem. To make a haiku, you have to follow the three rules. The rules are: 17 syllables, 5 on the first line, 7 syllables on the second line and five syllables on the third line. You also have to use seasonal reference and a cutting point.

This is my Haiku that I made with Andrea and Norah.

The waves kissed the shore

Gently caressing the sand.

Trees dancing sweetly

Area and Perimeter

In this game, my score was 100. At first, when I started this game it was difficult, but when I kept on playing I knew how to work out the problems. First, all you have to do is find the area and perimeter. I found this game easy as I kept playing it because helped me too get better at it. Next I want to revise HCF and LCM.
